The Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed that the 2020 Ghana Exams for Senior High School candidates will begin on August 4, 2020, and conclude on September 4, 2020. This was confirmed by the Ghana Education Service, which assured students, parents, and teachers that all necessary arrangements have been made to conduct the exams smoothly and safely.
Authorities emphasized that strict safety protocols will be observed to protect both students and staff amid ongoing health concerns. Students have been urged to continue with their preparations and make use of available resources to perform well. The announcement brings clarity to the academic calendar, allowing schools to plan accordingly and ensuring that candidates have adequate time to revise before the start of the examinations.
The Examination Council earlier announced the suspension of the conduct of the 2020 WASSCE for school candidates which has now been dubbed Ghana Exams.
President Akufo-Addo in his 10th televised address to the citizenry on May 31 announced the reopening of schools for all final year students in the country to enable them to complete their academic work and prepare for their forthcoming examination.
The President directed for Senior High School final year students to report to school on June 22, after which they will write their exam six weeks later, from August 3 to September 4, 2020.
The Minister for Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh addressing the press said the government has consulted the Ghana WAEC office to set questions for the country.
The Education Minister has officially referred to the Senior High School exams as the “Ghana Exams” instead of the traditional West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). This rebranding, he explained, is meant to reflect a more localized approach to assessing students’ knowledge and skills. The decision has sparked discussions among educators, students, and parents about the implications for the country’s education system.
The 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is scheduled to begin on September 14 and will run through to September 18.
The Ghana Education Service has confirmed the dates, assuring students, teachers, and parents that all necessary preparations have been put in place. Authorities have also emphasized strict adherence to safety protocols to ensure a smooth and secure examination process for all candidates.
The Candidates are expected to resume for official learning on June 29, and take an eleven-week extensive tutorial after which they will sit for their final examination from September 14 to September 18, 2020.
