Ghana Parliament Rejects 2022 Budget

Rejection Of The 2022 Budget: Here Is What It Really Means (Good News Or Bad News).

Today was supposed to be the final day on which the Ghanaian parliamentarians would deliberate and approve the latest 2022 national budget that was presented some days ago, and by now it is really trending on social media that the budget has been rejected

The Country Parliamentary procedures, after some delays today, started with the majority and minority of the house giving their final say or words on the budget.

The Minority of the house was led by Haruna Iddrisu who believes the 2022 budget is not really the will or in the favor of the people.

Latest Ghana brings you much information about Rejection Of The 2022 Budget: Here Is What It Really Means (Good News Or Bad News).

They also observed that the allocations given to the legislature and the judiciary were woefully inadequate and should be increased. They also want the 1.7% E-levy on Mobile money transactions beyond 100 Cedis revised and even be removed from the budget. The New Patriotic Party, led by Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, agreed to some submissions from the minority but said the 2022 budget was progressive and the minority National Democratic Congress MPs had no right to call it a hardship budget.

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, at this stage, is invited to address the house and to make some prayers, in essence, to appeal to members of both sides to dialogue or sit and talk well and to come up with some lovely compromises. Speaker Alban Bagbin rejected his prayer and, historically, the majority side staged a walkout, leaving only the NDC MPs and their speaker.

The fiscal policy will be disapproved eventually, and what it means to us right now is that unless something urgent is done, the entire government machinery could shut down by the beginning of next year. It also means the government has to present a new budget incorporating concessions, or the new one risks being rejected too. All of this has to happen before the end of this year.
