Who is Jamie Foxx
Born in Terrell, Texas, on December 13, 1967, Foxx is the son of Darrell Bishop, who sometimes worked as a stockbroker, and Louise Annette Talley Dixon.
Foxx was taken in by Estelle Marie, a domestic servant and nursery manager, and Mark Talley, a yard worker, shortly after his mother gave birth. They adopted him and raised him.
When he was five years old, Foxx started learning how to play the piano. He was raised strictly in the Baptist faith and served as choir director and part-time pianist in Terrell’s New Hope Baptist Church as a youngster.
He went to Terrell High School, where he excelled academically and played quarterback in both basketball and football. He was the first athlete in school history to pass for more than 1,000 yards, and his goal was to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
Foxx was given a scholarship to United States International University after graduating from high school, where he studied composition for the performing arts.
Jamie’s Professional Career
In 1989, Foxx accepted a girlfriend’s challenge to perform his first stand-up routine at an open mic night at a comedy club. When he discovered that female comedians were frequently called on stage first, he made the decision to use the stage name Jamie Foxx, which he felt was sufficiently vague to preclude any biases and which paid homage to the black comic Redd Foxx with his last name.
In the comedy Toys from 1992, Foxx makes his film debut. Due in part to his own football background, he was given his first serious role in Oliver Stone’s 1999 film Any Given Sunday as a hard-partying quarterback. Foxx and co-star LL Cool J brawled while the movie was being made.
Foxx released the Peep album in 1994 under the Fox record label, but it was not a commercial success. In 2003, LisaRaye McCoy and Mario Winans’ song “Would You” by Benzino featured Foxx in a cameo.
Foxx was chosen on May 29 to play Al Simmons in Todd McFarlane’s upcoming relaunch of the Spawn movie series. In 2020, Foxx started working out to build strength for the role of former boxer Mike Tyson in the biographical movie Finding Mike, which he was cast to play in 2015. The proposal evolved into a miniseries in 2021, with Antoine Fuqua serving as the director.
