Fertility hospitals in Accra

Infertility is a highly personal and emotional subject and it’s a medical problem that is growing. Difficulty in conceiving a child is thought to affect as many as one in six couples, and there are many causes, from hormone imbalance to stress.

Good nutrition for both partners before conception will help ensure healthy sperm and eggs and is thought to increase the chances of conception. Stress can play a major part in infertility problems and it is important that both partners find time to relax and unwind.

Because of the personalized nature of infertility—the inability to conceive or take a baby to term —there is no one rule as to when to seek treatment but there are guidelines including:

  1. Couples over the age of 35 and six months of unprotected intercourse with no pregnancy;
  2. Couples under the age of 30 with one year of unprotected intercourse with no pregnancy.
  3. Known medical or health issues that could impact natural conception (i.e., cancer, diabetes, sterilization procedures, etc.) It’s important to note, however, that every couple is different and consultation might be in order much sooner. If nothing else than to provide peace of mind.

One of the main reasons for the rise in infertility is the postponement of childbearing. As women delay marriage and subsequent pregnancy, their egg quantity, and quality decline. A similar situation happens to men but not quite as significantly as to women. Infertility doesn’t discriminate.

It affects all racial and socioeconomic groups and because of this, every couple’s situation is different and requires a comprehensive approach. It’s important to note that most couples seeking fertility care will benefit from low-tech’ options such as medication or surgery before they get pregnant.

Some of the options utilized to help overcome ovulation or age issues include the use of clomiphene citrate or Clomid and egg donation. In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) For the approximately 20% of couples who require high-tech methods of getting pregnant, help is most often found in in-vitro fertilization or IVF.

This is where the egg and sperm are fertilized outside the woman’s body and then placed back into the uterus to continue growing. A technique called blastocyst transfer, researched in part at our center is used in conjunction with all of our IVF cases.

Its benefits are two-fold: one, it allows only the most healthy embryo to be placed back into the mother thereby increasing pregnancy rates, and two, because the embryo is healthier, fewer embryos are placed (usually two at the most) so there is much less chance of multiple babies and risks like prematurity.

Our primary objective is to provide the highest standards of fertility services comparable with the best internationally.
    “The vision to set up Upscale Angels Fertility was as a result of my frustration and personal experience with infertility. Like many women, The trauma of sometimes having good eggs or embryo, yet not yielding to pregnancy is quite familiar. After years of societal and peer pressure, I decided to try modern science. The challenge was finding a facility to do it. The Ghanaian culture made it difficult to have an open discussion about Infertility. After the realization that there was no such facility in Ghana, yet the need for such services was quite high, Upscale Angels Fertility was borne in 2005; and I am proud to be its first client.
    After many years of infertility, and Research, I come to realize that not all couple share the same problem. A typical female infertility is usually associated with poor ovum, or eggs, others may be associated with the lining of the uterus.
    A typical male infertility problem is also associated with low or no sperm count. Others too may need Surrogacy because of health reasons such as sickle cell carriers, or clients who have been through hysterectomy.
    We have been serving Ghanaians and Africans at large, since 2007. We can proudly boast of over 200 Assisted Reproductions, including over 45 surrogacy cases; do not wait to be our next success story.

Psychological distress is common during fertility treatment, but most patients and partners do not receive and are not referred for MHS. Furthermore, MHS use and referral is not targeted to those at high risk for serious psychological distress. More attention needs to be given to the mental health needs of our patients and their partners.
