Born on July 7 1996, Caled Daniel is a professional Australian footballer who plays for the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL).
Daniel was born in Beaudesert, Queensland, and lived there until he was six years old. He then moved to Adelaide and attended Aberfoyle Park High School and played eleven senior games for South Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League.
With selection 46 in the 2014 National Draft, the Bulldogs selected Daniel. Despite being passed over by other teams due to his small stature, Daniel had impressed Simon Dalrymple, the Bulldogs’ head recruiter at the time, who noted: “His decision-making stood out, his ball-handling… He is able to continue running. Additionally, he is quite agile, which gives you a little bit more time when you have that lateral movement. In round 14 of the 2015 season, he started as a substitute and made his debut in an 11-point victory over Carlton.
After displaying promise in his first season, Daniel upped his game the following year, helping the Bulldogs end their championship drought.
He was nominated for the 2016 AFL Rising Star award after accumulating 25 disposals in a 36-point victory over Carlton. Callum Mills of Sydney ultimately won the award.
In February 2017, Daniel extended his contract with Weston Bulldogs, keeping him at the the club until 2019
Daniel’s best season came in 2020, where he was ranked as the games best ranked general defender according to AFL Player ratings and won the Western Bulldogs best and fairest award, the Charles Sutton Medal, with a total of 205 votes over the course of the 18 games he played, beating Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli by a mere 10 votes
