WAEC Gives Deadline To Release Withheld 2021 BECE Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it will after the conclusion of an ongoing investigation into cases of examination malpractice release the withheld BECE results of candidates who sat for the examination in 2021.

The not-for-profit-making organization in a blog post said its decision to cancel and withhold the subject or entire results of some candidates follows the approval of the Examiners Appointment Committee on February 22, 2022.

“When your results are still withheld after an abnormal period you may be called to the WAEC office in your region or at the WAEC headquarters in Accra to make a statement concerning the exams malpractice,” he explained.

The official said at times, some results of candidates are released one week after the conclusion of the investigation adding that “but in some cases, it takes a longer period of time depending on how serious the malpractice is.”

Today, based on what the Examinations Council has said entreats all 2021 BECE graduates with results withheld to keep calm and refrain from result upgrading and the rest assured that WAEC will release the results after the probe.

A total of 572,167 candidates made up of 287,730 boys and 284,437 girls partook in the national examination. Among the registered candidates, 61 had visual impairment and 321 were identified with hearing impairment.

Announcing the release of the 2021 provisional BECE for School results, WAEC said the subject results of 138 candidates for the offence of either bringing in foreign materials into the examination hall have been cancelled.

“The subject results of 148 candidates and the Entire Results of 109 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into various cases of alleged examination malpractice,” it stated in late February 2022.

WAEC also said the scripts of candidates from 24 Junior High Schools (JHSs) in certain subjects are undergoing scrutiny. The withheld results we understand may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations.
