Ghana’s Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) is the governing force in charge of inspecting, monitoring, and regulating exports into the country.

The Customs Division is a paramilitary organization that is part of the country’s national security architecture and is part of the GRA’s Operational Division. Customs Division offices are strategically positioned at all points of entry and exit, including harbours, airports, land borders, parcel posts, and other inland locations. The Customs Division’s employees are distinguished by their distinctive uniforms and accessories.

The Division, as the first line of defense, plays a critical role in safeguarding Ghana’s territorial integrity by conducting preventive operations along both permitted and unapproved borders. The Customs Division is in charge of three distinct responsibilities:

Uniform Meaning

The CEPS Ghana Uniform is worn by every Customs Service employee in Ghana.  Because exports are so crucial to Ghana’s economic success, they can also pose severe hazards to the country by enabling undesirable and unsafe commodities to enter. As a result, the CEPS, a unit of Ghana’s Special Forces, is in charge of overseeing and regulating this sector.

The service was created in 1839 and was administered by Ghana’s Civil Service Department. The service was created independently in 1986 by the Flight Lieutenant Rawlings regime, which was approved by PNDC Law 144. The law was repealed in 1993, and the PNDC Law 330 took its place.

The Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD), which is in charge of all domestic taxes and levies, and the Support Services Division (SSD), which is in charge of all administrative and other specialized services for the organization, are the other two divisions.
