American rapper, actor, television producer, and businessman Curtis James Jackson III, better known by his stage name 50 Cent, is from the United States. Jackson, who was up in Queens’ South Jamaica neighborhood, started his musical career in 2000 by producing Columbia Records’ Power of the Dollar.

Jackson was born on July 6, 1975, in the Queens district of New York City, and was raised there by his mother Sabrina. Sabrina was a heroin dealer who reared Jackson until the age of eight, when she perished in a fire. Jackson stated that his mother was a lesbian in an interview. Jackson was raised by his grandparents when his mother died and his father left.
He started boxing around the age of 11, and when he was 14 a neighbor started a boxing gym for kids in the neighborhood. Jackson started selling drugs at the age of 12 while his grandparents believed he was enrolled in after-school activities. He also smuggled weapons and drug money to school. Jackson was given a sentence of three to nine years in prison, but while serving his boot camp time, he completed his GED.
Jackson adopted the nickname “50 Cent” as a symbol of transformation. The name was chosen by Jackson “because it says everything I want it to say,” and it was influenced by Kelvin Martin, a “50 Cent”-style Brooklyn robber from the 1980s. Jackson started out rapping over instrumentals on turntables in a friend’s basement. Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC, who was starting Jam Master Jay Records in 1996, was introduced to him by a friend. He learned from Jay how to produce records, write choruses, organize songs, and count bars. Jackson made his debut on the song “React” on Onyx’s 1998 album Shut ‘Em Down. Jackson praised Jam Master Jay, who also produced Jackson’s debut (unreleased) album, for helping him get better at writing hooks.

In the Super Bowl LVI halftime show on February 13, 2022, 50 Cent made an unexpected appearance. For the performance, he was given a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) in September.
